'A view straight down the belly of the Lisbon beast - Rua Augusta in Baixa – as seen from the top of Arco da Rua Augusta, Lisbon's signature triumphal arch which was built in the wake of the 1755 earthquake and is a symbol of the new city envisioned and executed by Marquês de Pombal.
Today, the street is lined with shops and cafes from Praça do Comércio to Rossio Square and has been closed to vehicles since the late 1980s'
