Last night I had the distinct honor to play at a benefit concert for the #sanjosediscoverymuseum which is an incredible place for children in the community to explore their scientific curiosity. The evening honored #RubyBridges who at 6 years old was the first person to break the color barrier of segregated schools in #Mississippi. Each day she was escorted to school by 4 federal agents through an angry mob of picketers shouting threats and horrible things at her. During the first months she was placed in a classroom by herself and was not allowed contact with any other children, even though she could hear them in the classroom next door. Through the courage and insistence of her teacher the school principal eventually allowed her into the same class room with other children. It was not easy, but she persevered and today speaks of the importance of diversity and education for all!
