@ニューヨーク・タイムズ photographer @joshhaner took this #aerial photo of Isle de Jean Charles, Louisiana, in April. Because of the impacts of #climatechange, a $48 million federal grant has been allocated to resettle the island’s residents. The resettlement plan is one of the first programs of its kind in the world, a test to see if it’s possible to respond to climate change without tearing communities apart. The island’s residents are to be resettled to dryer land and a community that currently doesn’t exist. But even a plan like this — which would move only about 60 people — has been hard to pull off. Many people simply don’t want to go. Whether to leave is only the first of the hard questions: Where does everyone go? What claim do they have to what is left behind? We’ll be sharing more photos by @joshhaner later this week. Visit the link in our profile to read about the first American #climaterefugees.
