You can clearly see the papillae on Siam's tongue whilst he's grooming after eating. The backward facing spines are really rough and make light work of getting the blood and other bits of leftovers out of his fur. They are also functional in drinking and loosening flesh from hard to get places during eating. Oh and also very useful in making me bleed when licked in the same spot over and over. As a home experiment today, take 40-60 grade sandpaper and rub on your forehead 4-5 times with force. If you're like me after a few times, beads of blood will appear.
