The Mayans thought they were sacred – that they were portals to communicate with the gods. Which means that in the more sacred cenotes, human sacrificial remains have been found.? Regardless – my cast and I thought exploring these cenotes was hella fun, even though a bat flew into my head and the only light we had was our flashlights (and I refused to wear my snorkeling mask) ha. May be a first and last time kind of thing for me but what an experience though! #cenote
