When the recent laws were passed making it legal to discriminate against #LGBT people in #Mississippi some artists opted to cancel shows there. Because I have spoken about #unconditionallove and #equality for #AllPeople in all my songs and at every show since I started in music, I made a choice to play for the first time in #Oxford, Mississippi and do what I always do, encourage people through music to have #compassion for all and work for #justice and #humanrights for everyone on the planet. I support other artists who through their conscience have opted to express their views by not playing there and was thrilled to meet so many people at the show who were there in the spirit of equality! I was adopted and grew up in a family that was racially mixed with both straight and gay children and my mother insisted that all of us treat others the way we expected to be treated, or perhaps even a little bit better than the way we hoped to be treated, that is my belief, my family value and one that I encourage at every show I play. So thanks for having us #Mississippi I support you on your long journey to equality. #SOULROCKER
