Margaret Fleck from Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a finalist of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge, which Dolby co-sponsored. The finalists, all young women between the ages of 15 and 18, submitted a STEM project that has the potential to benefit the world. Margaret created an automated audio level regulating program for headphones she calls “the headphone stairs.” She created a computer program that will progressively reduce the volume of your headphones at pre-designated intervals with the hope that her program will help people safely use their listening devices without fear of damage to their hearing.
“My invention is a computer program that controls the volume levels of your headphones so that you don’t have to worry about damaging your hearing. Already a lot of my friends are asking me to make an app so they can use it when they’re listening to music on their phones. I hope that will make it more accessible.” -- Margaret Fleck
