I want to pay tribute today to a Human being that I Loved and admired. I never met him, but through his daily writings in a Mexican newspaper made me laugh, think, and partially, taught me how to write: Don German Dehesa. He left his body in 2010, and since then, there's been a vacuum in Mexican philosophy. I would say that he is the last great Mexican intellectual (Not counting politicians [There are 2 Masters still alive but they are politicians]). One of my biggest regrets in life is not knowing where German Dehesa's 2 replies to my emails are. I've been thinking about him lately, specially on Friday's, because he didn't write his daily column on the newspaper during the weekends and I hated that. And he would finish every Friday his writings with the same phrase "Hoy Toca". I don't want to explain it in English because there are minors here, but today, since it is Friday, I decided to write these words about him. He would describe his garden and his Trees, he would discuss Mexican history and current affairs, and I remember imagining being next to him laughing at how he would criticize the politicians of my country. His daughter was his right hand so I Loved him more for that. In a world where mediocrity seems to permeate into every aspect of life, a beautiful Human like Don German Dehesa is needed and missed (At least by some). To close these lines, I just want to say that I hope that his daughter and his garden are doing great. "HOY TOCA"...
