They’ll spend the next 7 or more years learning how to climb trees, make a nest of leaves, spot edible forest fruits and avoid predators. Their human minders take pains not to be overly affectionate with their adorable charges. These orphaned #orangutans — endangered apes native to rain forests in the Indonesian regions of Borneo and Sumatra — need to learn to avoid humans in preparation for their return to the jungle. But in Indonesia, their jungle is slowly disappearing. Over the years, thousands of square miles have been cleared for palm oil plantations. Last fall, huge fires — the worst on record — destroyed more than 10,000 square miles of forests.
