Happy Birthday, Karl-Heinz Schnellinger! The former German international turns 77 today. Schnellinger was one of the best leftbacks in the world in his era. He was nicknamed ‘Volkswagen’ for his consistency of performance. The powerful defender represented Germany in four FIFA World Cups between 1958 and 1970. After starting his professional career with 1. FC Köln, he went on to spend many successful years in Italy where he won a number of major trophies with AC Milan during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
