Proud of my friend @missalexisjones @thenewhollywoodwomen supports you... Keep reading folks. This is a good one... From Alexis Jones ・・・ My dad scribbled this note to me when we were in church today celebrating Easter and it brought me to tears. But regardless of religion, we've all witnessed adversity and in the midst of it, it can feel so dark and we can feel so alone. A week ago tonight, I shared online an experience that involved my mom and me. I shared it because I was upset, embarrassed and wanted to not feel so alone. But, I wasn’t at all prepared for what came next. Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone. That’s what freedom of expression is all about and what makes our country so special. But sadly people often use those precious rights to spread hate and insults (especially online) instead of love and encouragement to people they have never met and probably never will. I also know I'm not special here. So many women who have been courageous enough to come forward have been equally shamed and blamed; while most women never come forward because they see how badly others have been treated. We can play tough, but to be honest, it's really hurtful. Yet, despite all of the mean words, we are still here; as a daughters, wives, sisters and human beings and that is courageous. The bigger question here is, when WILL it be safe for women to share their hurt and their pain without an inhumane and hateful backlash? To anyone that has ever wanted to share your truth but felt you couldn’t, to anyone who has ever been called something hurtful or bullied or been made fun of or harassed or assaulted or attacked and threatened for speaking up... you are not alone. I think we could all agree that our world is in desperate need of more love and compassion and less judgment and hate. What can be offered in these moments when the world feels so dark, is that the worst thing in your life, isn't going to be the last thing. So join in sharing your name and what "they" called you when you bravely spoke your truth. I’ll go first: I’m Alexis. They called me a lying, opportunistic whore. #whenwillitbesafe #protecther #itsonus
