In 2013 former Navy Seal Micah Fink took his own money and created the non-profit @heroesandhorses with the goal of helping returning #‎veterans reintegrate into society. Heroes and Horses is a unique program that uses the remote wilderness and the horse/human connection to challenge and inspire personal growth in veterans suffering from mental and physical scars. This powerful program challenges our nation’s veterans to rediscover who they are and what they can be. The focus of the program is not about what happened, but what can happen when one chooses to press on. Through extreme expedition-style horse pack trips that teach self-reliance, teamwork, and perseverance, this program tests veterans with what challenges them. It also gives them an opportunity to make peace with their past and replace devastating memories with positive ones. The motto for Heroes and Horses is simple, "We are not defined by our many scars, but by what we do after the wound closes.” It is the after part that is critical to the team at Heroes and Horses.
