With today's events in Belgium, I took a moment and took in everything around me. I got to see my best friends today, I have the privilege of skating in a facility dedicated to our sport with a coach who will do anything to help me, I have a job of teaching skating that I love, and I came home to my two parents and a home cooked meal. I have seen many parts of the world and in a week I get to take a trip around the world to see friends and spread my love and knowledge of skating.
▫ I am lucky.▫
The world is an incredible place if your mind is open to it; you can learn so much but it's sad that it can all be gone in a second. Today another act of terror happened, and these people who are committing these acts are not open minded and only want what they think is correct, they are selfish. Due to their selfishness so many people lost what they loved, what they dreamed of. Even more selfish about these terrible people, is they are not just effecting those injured or lost today, and not just their families. They are also effecting the on lookers, the people who witness it first hand or see it on the news. Some will become scared and not live their dreams because they are too afraid to leave their houses. Some would love to travel to Europe but fear they could be next.
This too is a fear of mine. It's a fear of anyone really. But I will not succumb to the act of selfishness, except my own. I will be selfish and travel, I will be selfish and skate, I will be selfish and live my life because I am lucky to do just that.
These things really put life into perspective, and no matter your personal situation the fact that you are on this earth, able to read this post, and be a citizen of the world stop and realize you are lucky.
