*Me after this afternoon's events*
Today, I had to go into Hollywood for an audition and I wore this flannel, jeans, and combat boots. In the short walk from my car to the building my audition was in, I got cat-called by construction workers *three* separate times. I brushed it off and kept walking, and figured I'd take it as a compliment and keep moving.

But then on my drive home, I witnessed another woman (in a loose fitting tee shirt and skirt) get harassed by a group of four guys. And the worst part is, as I saw the guys walking towards her, I knew it was coming. I realized this really isn't something we can just brush off.

The fact that we as women can not walk around alone (even when "appropriately" clothed, even in "safe areas") without feeling vulnerable to this kind of stuff is terrifying.
I don't know how to solve it, and that's not the point of this post. But what I can say is, guys, if you see a woman walking down the street, even if you have good intentions in telling her she looks beautiful, please be aware that we are already in a position where hearing these kinds of comments makes us feel like our safety is at risk. The most respectful thing to do is to let us walk around in peace.
