What do you do when audience members interrupt a performance by fiddling with their brightly-lit cellphones? In China, you zap them with a laser beam. During performances across China, ushers equipped with laser pointers station themselves above, or on the perimeter of, audiences. When they spot a phone-in-action, they pounce with a pointer, aiming it at the glowing screen until the user desists. Call it laser shaming. (In the United States, the use of laser pointers is highly regulated.)
