Our next weekly content creator is the talented, @Alex Strohl. Here's a taste of his story: What initially got me interested in photography was travel. The drive to experience new cultures and destinations is, I think, what has really made my photography progress. I ve always been fascinated by different realities and ways of life, trying to imagine people from different walks of life and attempting to connect with individuals living in a particular place. I grew up in south France and northern Spain, listening to stories about my dad traveling to America in the 50s and 60s. He spent two or three years in Montana and I loved hearing stories about the open landscapes and rugged American lifestyle. I went to school for graphic design in Provence and while I was there, I really started to commit myself to adventure and action photography. Afterwards, I felt like I needed a breath of fresh air and moved to Quebec City. The first choice was NYC, but Quebec was easier because of its close ties to France. The seasons were a shock in the beginning, especially coming from the south of France sometimes in Quebec it feels like winter will last forever. At the same time, that extreme weather was such an inspiration for my photography. I was consumed by documenting every massive storm and change of season. In Europe when it snows, the cities stop, but in Quebec you don't have that luxury, they just kept on moving. In 2011 I was still in design school, using rented camera equipment and friends suggested I try an app called @Instagram. At the time, I was taking photographs of old American cars, contrasting the architecture in Quebec with that of Europe, and a lot of photos of the mid-century homes in upscale neighborhoods under #houseportrait. Without a doubt @Instagram has changed my life, I ve met so many new people that have become some of my closest friends. When you meet someone from @Instagram, there's a common synergy you share, which I love.
