This picture was taken right before getting on stage in Hyderabad, India a little less than a month ago. Scrolling though the photo at first, I didn’t think much of it, I had just gotten a haircut a few hours before heading to the airport and catching my first flight on the way to India.
Since my hair always looks mad funky right after a cut it takes a few days for it to sort itself out so as I was rushing out of the house I grabbed the closest hat I could find. Funny enough it ended up being my Tiesto Club life hat from 5 years ago, it felt a bit silly to be wearing it for 3 days straight at first, but there is a story behind it.
Five years ago, we were working shitty jobs (TV salesman & Lifeguard) trying to make music with all the spare time we had, we didn’t really have anything going on at the time so when a remix competition opportunity for Tiesto’s new single came up we jumped at it. We really didn’t think we were going to win by any chance, there were a few thousand remixes including ones from Dyro & 3LAU at the time and we by no way thought we had a serious chance at being the final pick.
When the news came to us that we ended up being the winners of the remix competition and would get an official release on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom label we could not believe it, we both quit our jobs the next day and put all of our focus and energy into what we love to do most. Shortly after we had sent a demo to Hardwell’s Revealed Records which was a fairly new label at the time and just like that it turned out that Hardwell & his team liked our submitted track "Monk" and it became the 20th release on Revealed Records.

This hat was one of one of the prizes of the remix competition, and it serves as a meaningful reminder to always appreciate the past that got you where you are today and the people who helped you along the way. Its easy to caught caught up in everyday annoyances & struggles, sometimes you miss the bigger picture that you were given a chance to spend each moment you have doing what you love instead of selling TV’s and make sure no one runs near the pool deck.
