Last week I found out I have breast cancer. I was hoping that it was a bad dream or a tasteless joke. The second opinion confirmed that it was neither. I was going to keep it to my small circle. Then I thought why not use this platform to educate and influence other women as I've tried to do on other matters in the past.
I am still waiting on a few more test results which will determine my treatment plan. My biggest message to other women right now is if you detect any suspicious masses, you should have it examined by a specialist. Imaging (mammogram and ultrasound) will not always detect. I thought I escaped cancer a year ago but turned out it was cancer after all, despite the assurances of my previous doctor.
For now, I am done crying and out of the shock phase. I'm ready to fight! And I really don't have any other choice. I am sure there will be days I'll be down again but I know the most important part of beating an illness is the will to fight. Feeling sorry for myself is not going to help me get through it. I have to take charge and not let cancer control me. More later.

P.S. It was my fiancé's idea to wrap my arm with a pink ribbon. I loved it as it made me feel empowered and supported.
