They were called Madrid Football Club and won their first trophy, the Spanish cup, in 1905. Later known as Real Madrid, the club established itself as a major force in both Spanish and European football during the 1950s. They would becomethe first team to win the European Cup (in 1956) and the only club who has won it five times consecutively. In domestic football, the club has won a record 32 La Liga titles, in international football, Real Madrid has won a record 10 European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles.
