Man City 0-0 Villa – HT: It was backs to the wall stuff for much of the first half but Villa emerged unscathed. Rémi Garde’s men produced a resolute defensive display and almost nicked a goal themselves through Jordan Ayew. The away side’s rearguard was made to work incredibly hard in the early stages as City looked to stamp their authority. Brad Guzan produced a superb one-handed save to tip over a Sergio Aguero effort after the Argentina forward brilliantly brought down a lofted pass and cut past Aly Cissokho. There was another let-off for Villa soon after when Gael Clichy picked out Wilfried Bony with a cross from the left but the former Swansea forward miscued from 12 yards. And Guzan denied Aguero again with a diving save to tip away a half-volley. The City onslaught continued when Aguero fired wide after a clever exchange with Bony. But Villa created a decent chance of their own just before the half hour mark – Joe Hart getting a hand to Ayew’s drive after a scramble on the edge of the City box. #AVFC #MCFC #MCIAVL #AstonVillaFC #AstonVilla
