#FBF to 1984 when basketball, the sport invented 93 years prior in Springfield, Massachusetts, made its first Olympic appearance on its native soil. It was also the first time that a single nation won gold medals in both the men’s and women’s tournament in the same Olympiad. The U.S. Team, which earned a perfect 8-0 record en route to gold, featured three young men who would go on to play on the 1992 Dream Team. Patrick Ewing (11.6 ppg.), Michael Jordan (17.1 ppg.) and Chris Mullin 11.6 ppg.) not only led the USA in scoring, they collected the first of an eventual two Olympic gold medals apiece.
