I wanted to share this story.. I did 104 shows for the Sweet Talker album all over the world last year and this year. Firstly THANK YOU to everyone who came and saw the show! Ending the tour last week in Dusseldorf and Amsterdam. This video was taken in Dusseldorf last week. I completely lost my voice two days before this show from vocal / body exhaustion flying from LA (Grease Live) straight into doing 2 shows a day for art on ice 10 shows back to back. Not looking for sympathy. Just telling the story ?. This is just how it is! On my one day off my body relaxed and I literally couldn't speak. My show / songs are not easy to sing. I can't sing them half heartedly. I have only ever defined myself as a musician on stage to give the people the fans the heartbeats who support me, a REAL LIVE version of a recording they may or may not already have. I want the audience to feel the songs, Im old fashioned in that way, I will always adapt my life to make it work before making it easier for me and less real for the audience. I want to work hard to always make my shows live. You put your money love and time into my dream. So I take pride in living a certain way to sing my show and not lose my voice or get sick. (I try my best and I do believe I have got better at not getting sick *touches wood*) I really live for this. I care. I push myself. I was told to mime the last two shows of this tour and was given steroids. I have never mimed or lip synced in my entire career. Maybe one day I will have to... (God forbid I won't have to) but for the safety of not ruining my voice I would if I had no other choice. But I would rather cancel a show than mine it. That's just me being honest. I know for some that isn't important and not a big thing. A all artists are different and we all prioritise different things. But to me it's everything. I am a singer. I love to sing. So.... I refused to mime. I shut up for a day. I drank only warm water constantly. I left the steroids in London. I prayed. I flew to Düsseldorf. And I was ok..?
