"This is one of those strange moments when the universe smiled back at Hubble. In this magnificent example of gravitational lensing, the light of distant galaxies have been warped by the mass of a foreground galactic cluster, creating a cosmic emoji of sorts. Gravitational lensing is a consequence of Einstein's theory of general relativity, which the famous physicist formulated a century ago. The mass of galaxies physically bends spacetime, which also bends the path of light, creating beautiful arcs like this. Now Hubble is using these natural cosmic lenses to superboost its power, looking even deeper into the universe."
