We want to send humans to Mars, but vision issues in astronauts during spaceflight is a huge problem to solve before we do.
BUT, scientists just discovered a possible link between genetics, nutrition and vision changes in astronauts. It makes it clear that the vision problem is WAY more complex than we initially thought. And we might be able to identify predisposition to vision issues before astronauts even fly.
Why do we care? Scientists have seen similar markers in genetic research on Earth for disease. Solving this mystery in space may also mean solving it on Earth.
