Rainbow Facing Canyons, Chapter 7/11 Rainbow is the oldest song to make it on this album. Hearing it takes me back to a tour bus, where our whole group sang along to it while coming back from a festival in Belgium. The idea behind “Rainbow” is simple. In it, I confront the exaggerated and opposing feelings that appear at the different stages of a romantic relationship. I realize that I’m about to generalize, but after observing many relationships, I’ve noticed that as soon as a girl falls in love, she falls in love extremely. Hearing bits and pieces of others’ conversations, I’ve heard plenty of overblown comments such as: “He’s the man of my life. He’s the best that I’ve ever met. I want to love him until the end of my days. He makes me laugh, he makes me feel beautiful, he protects me. I want to present him to my family. I saw him last night, but I miss him already. He’s so different.” And for good measure, the longtime classic: “He’s the one I never expected to meet…” And then, as it often goes, it ends with an extraordinary, drama-fueled breakup. It’s at that moment when we’re faced with a surprising reversal of the situation. The girl, previously in love, now says: “You’re nothing but a jerk. You don’t respect me. I can no longer put my own life on pause for you. You don’t deserve me. I’m you’re last priority. I hate you…” And so on goes our version of modern poetry. What surprises me the most is the flagrant reversal of feelings. We go from love to hate in a moment’s notice. I tried to find a metaphor that could represent this aspect of romantic relationships, and ideally one that hadn’t already been used 400 times. While looking at a rainbow one day I had a revelation. What is more beautiful, more perfect, more entertaining, more dazzling, more incomprehensible, and more magical than a rainbow? Very few things, indeed. Yet at the same time, what is more evasive, more futile, more ephemeral, and more mysterious? It’s a place where all colors coexist, but they never fuse. It’s a place where brilliant and beautiful colors contrast the sobering fact that at the same time, it’s raining... #thisisegypt #facingcanyons

Rainbow
Facing Canyons, Chapter 7/11

Rainbow is the oldest song to make it on this album. Hearing it takes me back to a tour bus, where our whole group sang along to it while coming back from a festival in Belgium.
