When did you last call a friend for a chat? These days phone calls are for old people, sales people or emergencies. The sound of our mobile ringing fills us instantly with dread…Something's wrong! Phoning friends for a laugh, or a gossip or a casual catch-up died with your chunky Nokia 3210. Why bother interacting like this when we can just send a What'sApp or an emoji that takes far less emotional investment? If and when we do phone someone it's probably been scheduled in for weeks with a long distance friend or family member and involves an epic Skype duologue. What an effort! This month @ELLE UK launches it's #PhoneYourFriends campaign. #Anxiety and #depression are on the rise among women aged 18-30 - were we happier when we talked to each other more? There's one way to find out. We want to encourage real meaningful connections with the women in our lives and will be publishing a collection of exclusively online essays that explore the ever-changing landscape of female friendship today.
