Gravical didn't turn out the way I wanted, for myself anyway. For this girl here however, everything happened as I had hoped and believed, she won gold (though I withheld telling her I thought she was capable of winning.) As her (unofficial) coach, I couldn't be prouder.


So the story goes: About two months ago we talked about her wanting to give competition climbing another shot. I had some ideas, offered my help and drafted a simple plan for her to follow. The most important part was the trust and commitment she had. Feedback bounced both ways, adapting and tweaking the plan as time went on. She worked hard at it, keeping a detailed log of every session.


From the start, I knew she had potential. It's almost undescribable helping and witnessing someone realise they have it in them. For me, the gold was never the primary goal. I just wanted to help her grow and believe in her abilities. The process was a lot of fun and it taught me some things about myself too. This new joy is different and refreshing.
