Abstract Expressionist painter Robert #Motherwell was born on this day in 1915. This photograph from our museum archives shows the artist supervising the installation of his retrospective exhibition at the Guggenheim in 1984. The artist and then Museum Deputy Director Diane Waldman (also pictured) chose approximately 60 of the 150 exhibited works specifically for the Guggenheim showing of the retrospective.
