about 3 years ago, I played my mom a song. I told her "mom, this song is going to change my life." On May 1st, 2015, we released that same song to the world. It was the first original I had ever released and we put it out on SoundCloud, not even as a single. this was the song people said wasn't "safe" enough for radio. this was the song nobody would play on their stations at first because it was different. this was the song at the bottom of everybody's list. Today, it finally made its way to number 1, and it's absolutely changed my life. I don't know how in the heck this little tune managed to climb and fight its way up every chart, station, playlist etc. but it has and its still going. By no means should numbers or charts validate art, but I can't help but be proud of something I fought for and believed in for so long. I couldn't be more grateful for my little song that could & I couldn't be happier with the amount of people resonating with it. Shoutout to anyone who's ever told me I was onto something in the very beginning, to all the radio stations who played it when no one else would, to all the people who feel like the lyrics gave them a voice they didn't know they needed, to my team for taking a chance and my radio fam for pushing so incredibly hard for me. To everyone who's ever adopted the phrases "I'll be over here" or "antisocial pessimist", and to every single one of u who've supported me ever since. thank u to @sebastiankole, @kuyaproductions, @oakestra, #popwansel for bringing ur magic to this song. I'm forever thankful for u. I've never been more mind-boggled in my life but it's the most beautiful kind of mind-boggling. trust ur instincts, people. believe in ur gut and make music u would fight for. HERE has taught me that music isn't just music- it's tied to our hips and floats around us wherever we go. thank u for letting my song float around u and make its mark in ur brains. thank u for everything.
