As today is MLK Day I feel quite inclined to share an experience with you all from earlier today & last night. I will start off by saying that as a travel influencer, but most importantly a woman of color, I can no longer support or recommend Colombian owned Royal Decameron Hotel in Haiti until serious changes are made. As a black traveler I've experienced many instances of racism, but up until last night my experiences working with or visiting any businesses in Haiti have always been extremely positive. Last night a non-Haitian contracted worker at the Royal Decameron made a racist remark to one of our @myhaititravels tour clients, that has left me heavy hearted. Even with that being said I at the time did not hold Royal Decameron responsible... UNTIL this morning when we had a sit down meeting with the non-Haitian Assistant General Manager. I am beyond livid at the treatment we received from the management as we discussed last night's events and am shocked that the Assistant General Manager attempted to discredit our story without gathering any evidence or statements from staff. There was such a lack of respect in his responses & the way that we were addressed that it saddens my heart. There is absolutely no way to defend a racist remark, and I will not tolerate it, especially not in Haiti a country built on unity. I will reiterate that all my experiences working with hospitality & tourism in Haiti has been positive thus far and there are many local Haitian owned businesses that are more than ready to accept a diverse group of travelers. Some of my favorites are @wahoobaybeach & @moulinsurmer which have always made me feel at home when visiting. We have been notified that Royal Decameron is working to resolve this issue, but until the proper actions are taken I can no longer support this property. If anyone has questions please do send me a private DM or email to [email protected].
