I was honored to march with @nyc_shutitdown during their #PeoplesMonday action a few weeks ago. I have great admiration for people like @counselme_queenqb , who take the time out of their busy schedules to consistently spread the word about the effects of our criminal injustice system. Not only does she make a difference as a public school guidance counselor in Harlem, but she is often a part of these marches, spreading love and truth throughout the streets of NYC. Marching through the Bronx neighborhood in which #EleanorBumpurs was killed by police was a powerful experience. Seeing the immense passion for justice first-hand and being joined in chants and marching from people all around the City as we walked was a deep reminder of the necessity of these protests. I highly encourage people who are passionate about these issues to join in on the ground and be a part of the great changes that are occurring and that will continue to spread throughout our country. Don't wait until #BlackLivesMatter reaches the tipping point of popular opinion before deepening your involvement. BE the tipping point. Allow yourself to be uncomfortable. Because positive change, whether personal or cultural, only comes from good people putting themselves on the line, and in the direct path of injustice.
