However, Sunni leaders in Bahrain, as well as in Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, have sided with Saudi Arabia, cutting diplomatic ties with Iran. Nimr was an outspoken critic of Saudi Arabia’s ruling family and was found guilty of seeking “foreign meddling” in the kingdom, a charge he denied. Read more on TIME.com.
