About the Shot: Here’s a general view of the start of the Women's 200M Freestyle Final during the Arena Grand Prix of Swimming on April 25, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. I spent a couple days covering Michael Phelps (@マイケル・フェルプス) return to competitive #swimming last year at his first meet back in #Arizona for @SportsIllustrated. I was using a lot of 35mm cameras both above and underwater in housing to capture and document his comeback for the magazine, but would also place #GoPro’s around the swimming pools and carry them on me just in case I saw something I wanted to quickly capture. This was one of those instances. I was setting up a 35mm remote camera with a 14mm lens near the starting blocks (seen in the middle bottom of frame) that would be triggered by a remote Pocket Wizard transmitter and I saw a photo that may work well for my GoPro.

How the Shot was Captured: I quickly took my monopod off my 400mm lens and body and attached my GoPro to it using a handlebar/pole mount kit, which was great for getting a high vantage point. I set the camera on #timelapse mode shooting every .5 sec, ISO 100, with protune on, and the in camera exposure was around F2.8 at 1/1500th of a sec. The light was beginning to get really nice with the sun setting in the background, and the GoPro was able to get such nice latitude of the highlights in the sky as well as the details in the shadow that my 35mm just made into a silhouette.
