Sophisticated Lady. I Love Natalie Cole so much man. One of the first childhood idols I got to meet and nerd out on when I first got in the business (she was married to a drum hero of mine Andre Fischer--of Rufus & nephew of the great Clare Fischer) I mean if you know of me or my rep then you can imagine how annoying I might be to childhood heroes (some have made their...well casual "disdain" for my stalking known---which is cool I get it and have curbed my enthusiasm since) but man ---that moment you dreamed of when you play like 300 Questions w someone. Dude. Natalie Cole so let me go apeish for like 2 hours man. Like Stevie Wonder is in the next room at a piano singing his whole catalogue but nah...I sat w Natalie & Andre and they schooled me on EVERYTHING I wanted to know (and took me 20 years to learn on my own)--- she wouldn't see me perform until like 8 years later w Dangelo but wow man, she made me feel so special. All my Chuck Jackson & Marvin Yancey questions. Life at Capitol. Her thoughts on her contemporaries back then. Mic technique. Breathing exercises. Touring then vs now "La Costsa", her dad, performing on #MidnightSpecial, recovering habits, getting the last laugh in 91 when people said she was crazy about dueting w her dad. Those Posner's Light Touch commercials on #SoulTrain and how did that hair gel never smear on the limo glass---everything I wanted to ask. I was on cloud 9. She didn't have to do that but she did (again I was less than a year in the industry unproven and not even "Questlove" yet) was one of my favorite singers as a kid and had a amazing rich voice. Ye's "Heard Em Say" is gonna sound even more sadder now. We have truly lost an under appreciated soul singing master. That don't make her like that used to that much I do know. God bless her soul and her family in this time. Man this is saddening. #NatalieCole
