An air raid siren sounded over #London to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the #Blitz. Volunteers took a convoy of #SecondWorldWar fire vehicles to #StPauls for a service of remembrance at the fire fighters' memorial as captured by @sophie1791 ? The night of December 29-30, 1940, became known as the "Second Great Fire of London" after 24,000 high explosive bombs and 100,000 incendiary bombs were dropped on the city by the #Luftwaffe. The bombs started more than 1,500 fires which developed into a larger blaze which threatened St Paul's itself. But our #cathedral was saved thanks to the valiant efforts of firemen and volunteers.❤️ // #ThisIsLondon #lestweforget
