@heforshe It's a scary journey when you are an educated woman who works hard to be independent, contribute to society, build a career. Now you find out that by the time you find the right partner or the right "timing" in which one feels secure economically or you have now stayed at your job for over a year, which means they cannot fire you, they just do not have to guarantee you will come back and have your earned position after maternity leave. Thanks to US government for these abysmal maternity rights nationally and on a state to state level. Then you go to the doctor & they tell you "Sorry, but you have a low ovarian reserve, or your eggs aren't viable, or at 30 you are now far less fertile. This is so discouraging to women and their partners or women that want to do it alone because you "checked" all the boxes and then you feel sad or punished for accomplishing what you set out to do - what society encourages. Then you feel robbed, scared- as no one shares the truth about fertility & age. Nor do people share that around 20% of first pregnancies end up in miscarriage. We have no coverage for women with fertility issues for IVF, IUI's etc. in the US. Those with endometriosis, PCOS & other reproductive issues even though they have an actual disease that causes infertility they still refuse to cover it- as if the one thing that women are born and told makes them special (that we can carry a child) are not worthy to have assistance financially or medically because we don't "talk about these things" Those with cancer, with many other diseases have coverage (though not enough) but we have NONE. So, women are forced to choose- donate eggs for money in hopes of having one for themselves, one shot at IVF or one shot at adoption, and the foster care system makes it nearly impossible for children to receive loving homes. I know through experience. I know through my friends and family. This needs to change. These stats are real. The pain of these diseases are real, they deserve to be honored with empathy, proper medication, attention and awareness. I am an example of a miracle. My children are. There is always hope, however, we need change and encouragement now.
