THIS ! #Repost @thetaratucker ・・・ Last night i had the honor of speaking on behalf of The Trevor Project about their suicide hotline for LGBTQ youth. It was a wonderful event with members of the entertainment and LGBTQ communities coming together to talk about the importance of embracing our differences as a society and the dangers that come with perpetuating hate. There was so much love in the air. And today I woke up to our leading GOP presidential candidate calling for a ban on all muslims entering our country. My father was born muslim. A dedicated American. A responsible citizen. A beautiful writer and the best father in the world. To think that if Donald Trump was president all those years ago, he would have never met my mother. And if it was just two decades ago, I might not have been allowed back into the United States with the last name "Ahamed." I would never have met my husband and we would not have the children that I hope to one day have. (sorry mom and friends, this isn't my politicized pregnancy announcement). I am not trying to vilify Republicans, as I know Trump does not represent many of my GOP friends views, but let's vote responsibly. Nothing good or productive have ever come from leaders perpetuating hate and divisiveness. Mexican, Muslim, Gay...We are all just human beings. It is up to us to speak loudly and say that this man does not represent our views. These acts of terror are indefensibly horrific and scary. And a real conversation needs to be had about what is happening in radical islamic communities. But until we get at the source of this problem, whether it be religious fundamentalism, gun violence or teaching our youth to hate themselves for being different, we are going to get stuck in a never-ending cycle of death.
