OMG! Thank u @dswt vet teams + @governorscampcollection ? Sunday was anything but a day of rest for the lions of Maasai Mara’s famous Marsh Pride.
That morning, Patrick Reynolds of Governors Camp received a call that the lions were acting strangely, collapsing in fits and spasms. He immediately called the #DSWT-funded Mara Mobile Veterinary Unit, and in no time, KWS veterinarian Dr. Limo was on the scene.

Dr. Limo found that five of the lions had ingested poison, which was causing these symptoms. He flew in an emergency antidote and began treatment. One of the victims is the son of Sienna (who, as you may remember, seems to run into more than her fair share of problems and is a frequent patient of ours). He was guarded while he recuperated all night to protect him from hyenas, and we’re happy to say that he’s looking great today.
Tragically, this incident wasn’t without casualties. An older lioness, perhaps more susceptible to the effect of the poison, passed away. The Mara Veterinary Team is still monitoring the pride to prevent any more deaths.
The KWS report that three people have been arrested in connection with the poisoning. Because lions are an endangered species, the three could face fines of $200,000 or life imprisonment if they’re found guilty.
