A portrait of Belle a Lanner Falcon used for hunting and sport. I was able to photograph this extraordinarily elegant bird while working on a portrait of the desginer @templestclair for the launch for second Haute Couture collection, #WingsofDesire from #TheGoldenMenagerie series she has produced. The beautiful & elegance of several of the works are inspired by animals like the Lanner Falcon. Ss usual I became interested in the history of the animals I photograph and the #Lannerfalcon has an amazing story to tell. This bird is most at home in open country and savanna.
This is presumably the oldest living hierofalcon species dating from the Late Pleistocene 200,000 to 130,000 years ago. There is hybridization and the partial understood lineage, but at this point the Lanner falcons represent the lineage that became isolated in sub-Saharan Africa during the Riss glaciation 200,000 to 130,000 years ago. @Robert Clark @thephotosociety
