Last night I went to LaGeSo, the refugee registration office where hundreds are queuing every night to be first in line for their appointments in the morning. We brought about 18l of hot and sugary tea and some cookies and shared it with the waiting people. The situation is bizarre, there are heated tents just beyond the barriers, but because of whatever reason people are not allowed in and stay on the sidewalk, sitting on the freezing concrete, waiting for time to pass. Dozens of volunteers come every night bringing tea, food and clothing. Police and ambulances are present, but it is only a matter of time until something serious happens. Just two days ago, a man from Iraq suffered a heart attach and was diagnosed with pneumonia. He's been waiting in line for days. This is happening in the centre of Berlin, in one of the richest countries in the world. This is not accidental, but a conscious decision. Makes me want to scream and throw stones at something.
