Last night I saw Blanche was breathing really fast. At first I figured it was because she has seen her own reflection and was overcome with emotion at the sight of her own beauty. It it made me nervous. So at 1am we loaded into an uber and went to north Austin to a 24 hour meat grinding plant, jk, to a 24 vet. 2 hours and ton-o-money later, turns out tiny tips maybe hurt her back. I felt so bad because I had her running up the stairs and chasing squirrels. Our dogs are so stoic when it comes to pain and Blanche, in particular, is so tough- I never think that she could be injured. One time she hit the door handle with her mouth so many times (Bc meat tips HATES to be alone) she started bleeding and didn't care. We have to keep her as sedentary as possible for 4 weeks. No running or jumping or pole dancing. This just means I get to carry her more which is great because it's the best way to experience her mercy. On a dark note- while waiting at the vet I kept thinking "I can't have my dog die while I'm in my pajamas on the way to Thanksgiving." The vet said lots of rest and kisses directly on her mouth would help. I'm taking this regiment very seriously. She said it also might help to lightly squeeze her haunch and clench my jaw as tight as I can and scream "SPECIES!"- it's more of a holistic approach.
Take care of your pets and remember they are not made of steel. They are made of hundreds of tiny dog parts and they are vulnerable. And merciful. And filled with steak.
