#LongStory...Finished product from last night. It's funny when shaping how many ideas go through your (my) head. I don't shape often so I want to put all the things I ever think about in one design. It took me probably two hours to template and cut out this thing deciding on dimensions and lines. This was just a throwaway blank Sean (@sslatersurftackle) had in the room so it's nice to have a keepsake from it. Seeing this pic reminds me of all the people who have influenced me over the years, from early days where @matt_kechele shaped for us and coached Sean and me to spending years and years in the shaping room with #AlMerrick learning how to do basic aspects of surfboards. Over the years I've worked with @mcsurfboards and @simonanderson1 and been influenced in design by everyone from #GeorgeGreenough (and Mark and Daniel Thomson- @tomo_surfboards) to #BenAipa, #DickBrewer to @waynerichsurfboards, @markrichardssurfboards to @gerrylopezsurfboards, #PatRawson to #SpyderMurphy, and on down the line to many of the modern boardmakers and surfers like @sealtooth and @bobbersandsinkers. This board has a rail that people identify as a Greenough but I got the idea from old #BenAipa (@aipasurf) boards he did for @bradgerlach in the 80's with #GerrBevel rails and #DaneKealoha in the 70's with deep bottom curves. It's also got remnants of @cheynehoran rails up in the nose like the designs he made with #GeoffMcCoy back in the #WingedKeel days. The bottom curves are reminiscent of #MauriceCole and #GregWebber lines with a bit of @campbellbros contours thrown in. My board shapes leave a lot to be desired in terms of actual shaping skill but our dad was a craftsman and a lot of history and heart and soul go into each of my attempts at #MowingFoam. There are more people than I could possibly mention here but thanks to all shapers and designers who have made our surfing world a unique and treasured one. #WhatElseCanISayIWouldntBeHereTodayifTheOldSchoolDidntPaveTheWay #KnuckleSandwich
