Today is the last Friday, of breast cancer awareness month and I want to take this day to remind all women on how important it is to get yourselves checked! Earlier this summer I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer called DCIS in Situ estrogen positive receptor. This cancer is the most common type of breast cancer and is hormone-receptor positive which means your body produces too much of it, and it doesn’t have to be hereditary since I had no history of breast cancer in either side of my family.
Breast cancer comprises 22% of all cancers occurring in females but only 2% of cases occur in women aged 35 years and under and when breast cancer when is 35 years or less can become more aggressive compared to older women.
Never in a million years did I imagine that at the age of 35 I would be diagnosed with breast cancer, something that unfortunately can happen to anyone. I consider myself very healthy, non-smoker, workout and for the most part live a very healthy lifestyle so in my mind, this diagnosis was unlikely.
I would like to share this experience with all women that perhaps have postponed their exams, because they may not have felt a lump yet. Early stage cancer has no side effects, mine was discovered coincidentally during a routine check up, after 2 different opinions, ultra sound and a biopsy.
As women it is very important we take care of ourselves, but also of those around us we love. I’m thankful for my sister @Lorenridinger @andrewjweissman saved my life by requesting I get a second opinion, also extremely thankful for my family and friends who have been there for me side by side until this experience was past me.
