This is a scene out of the Poet Anderson Novel... a race, to the death. The track goes up high into the atmosphere, and the bikes race vertically up into the clouds, then free fall backward back down. The track then narrows smaller into the core of the planet. Only few bikes can fit upon entry, and many die while smashing at great speed into the ground.
