Today was another oddly warm day for late Oct & I took full advantage of it by lots of gardening w/my son & then plenty of running time outdoors by myself. There's something about getting my hands in the soil that feels very purifying & at home for me. Today I spent the whole garden time pulling weeds & clearing out the rubbish. Really digging in & pulling out the dead roots, getting deep in the soil. Preparing the earth for the cleansing of winter in preparation for the spring to come. And yesterday my gardening was spent pruning the beautiful rose bushes all the way down to their bare bones. It doesn't look very pretty right now but I know this is necessary for the blooms to be much fuller & richer when the warm air returns. In many ways I have felt like these rose bushes this past year. Bare boned, choked by the weeds of life, & just... ouch. But. Things have been germinating underneath the surface, good life roots have grown thicker & stronger, dead roots have been uprooted & cleared & I already feel the seeds ready to sprout. In the past few seasons I've been in a mode of pouring out, maybe because it felt so natural as I was mothering a baby turned toddler & now growing boy. But this next season I feel a shift. This year is about letting myself be poured into. Starting with me. Owning that my time & energy are as valuable as anyone's & not short-changing myself on that. The Great Maya Angelou nailed it: "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it." Amen. That is my mantra for 2016 & for closing this year out with style. May it be so for each of you in your successes in all that you are & do. And can I just say *thank you* for giving me your time & attention here in my tiny space where I'm forever learning, growing, exploring & creating? Each of you have been among the kindest of souls by virtually sitting here with me, extending your likes & lovely feedback. You have no idea how the seemingly smallest of gestures can really make an impact on another's day & all of you have been big ripples in mine. So here's to each of you! And to the best & fullest year yet! As Spock would say: LLAP ?????
