Disney star Zendaya calls out magazine for Photoshopping her:

Like @タヴィ・ゲヴィンソン, @amandlastenberg, Willow Smith @gweelos and @キーナン・シプカ, singer-actress @ゼンデイヤ is part of a generation of young women not afraid to voice their opinions. Earlier this year, she called out Giuliana Rancic after the Fashion Police host said her dreadlocks looked like they smelled of “patchouli oil and weed” and, in an interview, gave a primer on cultural appropriation – explaining the distinction between appropriating and appreciating.

Now the former Disney channel star has called out Modeliste after the magazine allegedly Photoshopped images of her taken by Jim Jordan for the cover story of its new issue. Posting a “before and after” shot on Instagram, she explained the situation: “Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19-year-old hips and torso quite manipulated,” she wrote. “These are the things that make women self-conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it. Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.” As you can see from Zendaya’s post, the images have been distorted – her face, waist and thighs appear noticeably thinner. However, what is also clear from the post, is that the Modeliste was compliant with Zendaya’s wishes to release the un-retouched images.

Ironically, as one journalist quick to point out, the magazine praised its new cover star yesterday for “keeping it real”. – words @ted_stansfield #dazedinstastory ? @ゼンデイヤ
