Meet Kali Uchis (@kaliuchis), the 22-year-old Colombian-born, Virginian-bred singer-songwriter. Kali writes her own music, directs her own music videos, designs her own merchandise and curates her own aesthetic — a dreamy wonderland of pinks and pastels. Kali’s need to manage the way she looks, feels and sounds as an artist is more than just admirable, it’s necessary.
“I feel so strongly about my visuals,” she says. “I have to edit them by myself. People get tired of my bulls---. Like, why aren’t you happy with this? It’s like, it’s not right yet. You’re the only person, as a creative individual, who is going to take your art so seriously and want it to be perfect more than anyone else.”
