Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was destroyed by a Buk surface-to-air missile over eastern Ukraine, an official report by the Dutch Safety Board says. The Dutch investigators said the missile exploded near the cockpit, the Associated Press reports, killing three crew members and breaking off the plane in the air. All 298 people on board died on July 17, 2014. However, the missile’s Russian maker presented its own report hours earlier, trying to clear Russia-backed separatists who controlled the area or Russia of any involvement in the crash.
