#tbt to adventures in Uganda with @akolaproject. I'll never forget the way the women greeted us on our arrival. The love and joy, the laughter and dancing, and the hugs. Seeing how proud these women are of their craft, and how much their lives have changed for better since working for Akola, touched me so deeply.

I think I knew at this moment that I'd call the necklace I designed with these women "Love." It's made of the paper beads these ladies make by hand, and lava stones. There are tiny gold discs mixed in because black and brass happen to be my favorite color combo, and there are three little #rosequartz stones that are meant to rest over the wearer's heart.

I chose rose quartz because it means love. It's a stone of the heart. It's said to carry feminine energy, encourage compassion, peace, tenderness, and healing. There are three of these stones to remind us of the hands it's passed through. Mine as the designer, the woman who makes each necklace by hand, and finally the woman who wears it over her heart. We are intimately connected. We are choosing a clean and ethical supply chain that empowers our fellow sisters. We are quite a trifecta. We are love.
