Growing up in Colorado Springs skateboarding was my LIFE, it occupied every bit of free space I could cram it with. It went way beyond just skating- it was exposure to a unique community full of artists, musicians, creatives, freaks, punks, big personalities, film makers, photographers, hilarious people, weird dudes, outcasts, etc. It's the ultimate subculture. It's urban life, skating anything you could find, alleys, roof tops, late night trespassing, whatever. When I was a kid @woofsbane, aka Marc Hubert (seen here) was the GUY in C Springs. In the early days Marc was way ahead of the pack, had numerous sponsors, artistic, was in the skate mags, had ads, funny, and so on. We all looked up to him. One afternoon when I was 13 I got a phone call from Mark, asking me if I wanted to go skate. I was floored, said yes, and we met up at a local spot. It was just he and I and I remember skating my ass off, throwing down the best I could. A couple days after Marc called and put me on the team of a local skate shop that he was the team manager of, B/C Surf and Sport. One of the biggest days of being a kid, I'd "arrived" so to speak. It was my first sponsor, never forget the feeling or the moment. In homage here's an archive slide scan I found a couple days ago. Thanks Marc, let's go skate. ??
